Planning Your Garden Sauna
A little preparation means a smooth build day. Here is what to have ready before your Hekla sauna arrives. Not sure where to start? Our team is happy to talk it through.

Prepare a level base
A flat, level, solid and permanent base, such as a concrete slab or reinforced paving on a solid sub-base. Grass, gravel and soft ground are not suitable.
- 02
Allow space and access
Leave at least 1 metre of clearance around the sauna footprint and a clear access route of at least 1 metre wide, with no overhead obstructions.
- 03
Book a qualified electrician
Electric heaters must be installed, connected and certified by a qualified electrician. Wood-burning heater options are available on the Barrel models and the Cube 210 and 250.
- 04
Build day
The build team assembles the structure, roof and shingles, then leaves your sauna ready for its electrical connection.

Can I use an outdoor sauna all year round?
Yes. Hekla outdoor saunas are built to stand in the garden in every season. The thermally modified wood resists moisture and rot, the shingle roof adds protection and insulation, and the efficient interior heats up quickly so it is ready to use sooner.
What base does a garden sauna need?
The base must be flat, level, solid and permanent. A concrete slab or reinforced paving on a solid sub-base is ideal. Grass, gravel and soft ground are not suitable, and the base should be finished and fully settled before the build.
Do I need an electrician?
For an electric heater, yes. The heater, lighting and controls must be installed, connected and certified by a qualified electrician. Wood-burning heater options are available on the Barrel models and the Cube 210 and 250.
What warranty comes with a Hekla sauna?
Hekla offers a 5 year warranty on the sauna and a 2 year warranty on the Harvia heater. Full terms and conditions apply.
